Electronic and digital ballast technology is advancing rapidly, and this latest incarnation of the Lumatek electronic ballast represents what we currently see as the leading edge of this technology. With the ballast itself fully shielded against RF interference (a common problem with earlier models), the Lumatek is the first electronic ballast that does not require shielded cable from the ballast to reflector - making it suitable for use with any IEC (kettle) connection reflector. These models also feature a new 'Super Lumen' switch which allows you to send additional power to your sodium lamps and effectively overrun them to create additional light output (this feature cannot be used with metal halide lamps). The super lumen switch can be used to either bump up light output as your lamps get older or more likely used from the very beginning to increase lamp output throughout your grow. A soft-start mechanism on each ballast enables your light to achieve full brightness in just one minute whereas many traditional models take far longer – sometimes as much as 20 minutes.
